Speculative history conjecture. Plenty of “what ifs” out there. One of my favs is what if the last Tsar stood down and demobilized against Austria when the Serbs indicated they would concede to Vienna’s ultimatum in 1914.

Speculative, but closer than we may think. Note that during the Battle of the Bulge, FDR asked about the bomb. If the Germans had succeeded in reaching the sea, the outcome of the war was still assured, but it sure would have caused a lot of American casualties.

When looking at casualty estimations for Operation Olympic, I think that had a direct effect on Truman's decision to drop the bomb on Hiroshima.
