We ditched the .30 Browning after the Korean War. In fact, they were working on the M60 right after WW2, because they knew the MG 42 was a better LMG. The M3 works, but it's a piece of junk...I think there may have still been a few issued during Desert Storm, but the current M4 can fulfill the same function and a lot more.
