They also had to pay out 9 million pounds in compensation to Freddie Flintoff after his accident - both he and Hammond were lucky not to have been killed. There's got to be a point where people say 'this is stupid'.
I'd kind of lost interest in both shows before they transferred. The Clarkson etc. one had become almost like a parody of itself.

I never really got turned on to them until Grand Tour. Maybe that’s why I seem to like it more than most? I’ve watched a few episodes of Top Gear, and liked it, but not quite as much… It could be a matter of nostalgia not being as good as it used to?

Top Gear was at its best when it was about...cars. They had some goofy stuff, to be sure, but the reviews of the cars were great.
I never enjoyed the "adventures" quite as much. They always seemed contrived, in a Grand Tour kind of way. The crises were staged and designed to get a chuckle. Not a laugh, but a chuckle.
Don't give me a Brit version of "Oregon Trail." Show me some Aston Martins, Lambos and Mustangs.

I thought the early series of the new show in the 2000's were a good mix. The original Top Gear in the 70's and 80's was all cars, nothing else, and it was pretty dull - not many laughs except of course for Clarkson's perm.
Then they got sillier and sillier as they made more and more money.
