What a great idea - please update on how well it works.

I have an antenna, but we don't use it. As minor as it sounds - my wife and daughter get confused if the input on the TV changes, so this would solve that by integrating straight into the smart tv

They'd go nuts at my house.

    HDMI 1 = OTA Antenna
    HDMI 2 = DISH
    HDMI 3 = DVD

You need a "Y" chromosome to understand the intricacies of TV inputs. I have verified that with at least 5 "XX" chromosome bearers.

The syndrome is similar to the "I want it to cool down faster so I'll turn the thermostat down to 60" thinking.

Hahah - spot on. I can delegate basic AV hookup jobs to my 6 year old son already ("hook your nintendo up to the other TV").

So far so good. The color is better on the Tablo than the fioptics. The antenna is against a south facing wall behind a nightstand (it fell off the wall up above but still works great. To save $100 a month? I think we're going that way. Might add a FUBO or something like that that provides the addition channels we like.

Dumb question...Particularly close to urban areas, where multiple OTA channels are easily received, coupled with many of the streaming services relentless march towards more costly subscriptions, will we see a renaissance in OTA tv?

What if you let the "XX" chromosome bearers design the UI/UX of TV connectivity and thermostats to begin with?

We should, but I doubt we will. Complacency is one factor. Another is financial approach. My approach is that if I am not constantly trying to reduce my monthly expenses they are constantly going up. Many people don't do that unless they feel some sort of pain.

I'm not generally in favor of government intervention, but the FCC has long regulated the public airwaves. So I'd like them to mandate no more than four minutes of commercials per thirty minute block of OTA tv.

Speaking of all of this, Amazon bought IMDB TV and has rechristened it as FreeVee. I may be wrong, but I think they're going to make money with it, unless they get too greedy.

I knew about a relationship, but I didn't know that they actually bought IMDB.

I'm watching "Bosch: Legacy" on FreeVee.

Welp, for my Amazon Prime membership, I expected "free" made-for-tv shows. Commercial-free.

Now that they bought IMDB-TV, that's out the window.

Hint for Tablo users - do not try to use it with a Roku Express, not powerful enough to handle the throughput. Off, because it worked fine with cable. I had to buy an Ultra but it works great now.
