DPRK Closing Embassies
-
It is interesting that the missions of the DPRK have to be self sufficient. They do not get any support from the government. I have heard stories about some of the ways that these missions make money. Of the legal ones, one was raising fish in a pond in the back of their embassy and selling the fresh fish. Of course, lots of illegal things (drugs, artifact smuggling, etc)
North Korea confirmed on Friday it is shutting some embassies in an effort to "rearrange its diplomatic capacity efficiently", closures that South Korea says indicates the North is struggling under the burden of sanctions.
North Korea is poised to close as many as a dozen embassies including ones in Spain, Hong Kong, and various countries in Africa, according to media reports and analysts, which could mean the closure of nearly 25% of its missions worldwide.

Fascinating. I would never have thought that.

I visited 2. The one in Singapore was in an office block, and not their own building. I walked in unannounced and there were three guys just sitting around smoking. LOL
