This is the kind of thinking we desperately need in Washington. There's no free lunch.

Except that’s not a ‘pay for’. Their bill explicitly forbids CBO from scoring it because they know that ‘cut’ is revenue negative.

This is about catching more tax cheats.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

So your assertion is that the 14.3B spent on the IRS would bring in more revenue than it cost?

            https://www.cbo.gov/publication/57444

CBO estimates that portions of the Administration’s proposal to increase funding for the IRS by $80 billion over the 2022–2031 period would increase revenues by approximately $200 billion over those 10 years.

              Politically, it's a great move.

I like this very much. This is deficit spending. Every penny in deficit spending should be tied to spending cuts.

So, @Mik, now that you've got your answer that cutting IRS funding will increase, rather than decrease, the deficit, and have had a bit of fun talking about turtles, let's get back to the original topic: the new Speaker proposing a Israel aid bill that (1) even some House Republicans will not vote for, (2) the Senate Republican monitory Leader does not think is a good idea, (3) are highly unlikely to become law, (4) has zero Democratic support thus in this sense entirely partisan, and (5) all while the current government funding CR will expire in a little over two weeks and the specter of "government shutdown" will rear its head again. How do you think this is going to end?

This looks to be a repeat of the House GOP Freedom Caucus aiming the barrel at its own foot again; might be "feel good" red meat for parts of the GOP base, but then what?

I’ve already stated my opinion. New deficit spending must be tied directly to an equivalent cut. As the $14 Billion is only ~ 17% of the additional IRS funding, so they will still have plenty of money to go over all of your $600 Venmo payments…
