            There's a tension between collectivism and individualism that many modern cultures are getting wrong.

            I think humans are wired for personal collectivism (strong family, community and social ties - emphasis on strong). The tension is that economic individualism and freedom have eliminated much of the reason why those strong non-superficial ties existed in the first place.

            State or impersonal collectivism doesn't satisfy that human need at all.

                Good, let them experiment with different models. If there is a model that can lead to even better, more stable societies and still reduce the likelihood of “staying miserably together ever after,” experimentation is how we as a species will find it.
