The Phantom Menace comes to mind.

I think they actually do this. It's pretty common that sufficiently old and popular books get made into movies over and over.

I'd love to play this game; my problem is that I don't remember movies I've seen that well. Out of sight, out of memory. Plus I tend to only watch movies I already know will be good, anyway. Plus I have terrible judgment -- don't like movies commonly thought to be above the cut, and love ones that get panned.
One I just thought of: The Postman Always Rings Twice. I thought Fred MacMurray was a total dud. I'd love to see a competent remake of that one.
And if any movie that starred the abfab great Bette Davis gets a do-over, Ima write letters. Many, many letters.

Never saw it. Is it a waste of time?

I don't remember it much at all. If I had to guess, probably it's not a total waste of time, especially if you like noir. (I think it's noir, anyway.)

They did remake The Postman Always Rings Twice - Jack Nicholson & Jessica Lange. It was very sweaty, from what I remember.

According to Wiki, it's been made four times. The Nicholson one was good, I remember. He's a dirty bugger, of course.

Sweaty Jessica Lange - Jon would hit that.

They should do Dune again.
I just checked - apparently they have. It comes out in December.

I wonder if anybody's considered remaking Batman.

They should remake Godfather just to fix that horrible stage punch in the Sonny/Carlo street fight.

What???
Holy Crap. I'm excited!
David Lynch's "Dune" had one great scene - where the Guild Navigator talks to the Emperor. I loved the translation...
I'm sure they'll fuck it up.

I quite liked Sting as Feyd Rautha in David Lynch's version - there was a touch of punk rock to him. It doesn't look as though the character is in the 2020 film, which would be a shame.
