"Just say 'No!' to fireworks."

I hated being on call of 4th of July weekend. Saw a lot of bad hand injuries. This was before the time when everyone had a camera in their pocket, of course.
I saw this thread on Twitter, and it brought to mind the bad old days.

November 6th was always a big day in British hospitals.
The shit we used to do. I remember somebody lit a banger that was in somebody's back pocket.

And this year most community displays are cancelled. I bet it will be a record year (not in a good way).

In a town near me:
A fireworks mortar blew up in the hands of a 20-year-old man on July 5, severing both of his hands and injuring a 19-year-old man who had lit the fuse moments before.
The incident happened at about 5:15 p.m., according to police, who were the first to arrive at the scene in the 9000 block of XXXXXX Avenue. Police did not have an update on either man's condition as of Monday morning.
...
When police arrived they reported observing the 19-year-old victim, who had "various injuries/lacerations on his torso, arms, hands and face," lying on the parkway in front of the home, according to the police report. The 20-year-old victim, hunched over and losing consciousness, was nearby with towels draped over both hands. After seeing that the man had lost a large amount of blood, police officers tied tourniquets to each of the man's arms and carried him to an ambulance that had just arrived.
As paramedics tended to the 19-year-old on the parkway, a police officer drove the ambulance, with the 20 year old inside, to XXXXX Medical Center. Paramedics drove the 19 year old to the hospital after he was treated by paramedics at the scene.
According to witnesses, the two men were in the alley behind the residence shooting off fireworks. The 19 year old reportedly was lighting a mortar shell held by the 20 year old when it exploded.
Police reported recovering a "large spent mortar tube" in the alley. They also reportedly confiscated additional fireworks inside the residence, where both men lived. The men are not related, police said.

Oh, yes they are. Related in stupid.
As a kid, we would stuff match heads inside of CO2 cartridges, put them in a pipe, and launch. It was great fun, the cartridge would rocket a long way.
Kid in our neighborhood was launching his, it jammed and blew up. He lost two or three fingers.

Ouch. Though, there is a fascination with fireworks the whole world wide.
Every year, people are injured or killed, but the next year comes by, and the same thing happens.
-
Yeah, I think it's safe to say that males in particular like to blow things up, and are willing to risk their lives. Boys, too.
My daughter liked sparklers. My son launched a bottle rocket into a tree and started a fire.
Men have more fun, and realize that's why god gave us 10 fingers total. Lose a few, no big deal. As long as you get to keep the thumbs.
OK, so some women are stupid too. Equality.

I think I mentioned this before, but a friend of my in Taiwan lost his thumb and they replaced it with one of his big toes. So, maybe we dont even need the thumbs!!! LOL
