McCarthy opens impeachment inquiry

It’s actually binding on the Biden Administration unless they go outbid their way to issue a new opinion.
That opinion — issued by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel — came in response to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump without initially holding a vote for it. Not only is it still on the books, it is binding on the current administration as it responds to Tuesday’s announcement by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to authorize an impeachment inquiry into Biden, again without a vote.

Of course, the GOP’s impeachment effort isn’t really about what the evidence shows — it’s political. What’s really behind this is that the hard right has been demanding aggressive action against Biden, Trump wants payback for his own two impeachments, and Speaker Kevin McCarthy is struggling to hold off threats to his speakership. Yes. Impeachment is a fool's errand. He'll never be convicted. I imagine the McCarthy strategy is to just prove that Biden (et al) are just corrupt enough to dissuade people from supporting him.

And maybe throw enough stuff against the wall to enable some ethics legislation, while splattering mud on some Dems in Biden's orbit.
