And good things come your way.

The Saints signed this kid while he was in jail. In jail. They thought it was a bad case and took a chance on him. The judge must have thought it was a bad case, as he only served a fraction of his sentence. There has been no trouble at all with this young man since joining the organization (except for his first sack as a rookie, where he did The Worm across the Superdome field and the vets gave him hell for weeks about showboating...)

BTW, the deal is for $35.3M guaranteed, with bonuses it could reach $52M.

That translates into roughly $18 Million after taxes and agent’s fees, and athletes at this level typically spend another $100K in physical rehab and conditioning above and beyond what they get from the team during the off-season. James Harrison reportedly was spending $600K per year in 2013, and was up to close to $2 Million his last year. That’s a LOT of massage and acupuncture…

            A couple of interesting tidbits...

            1. Some positions take longer than others. Rookie running backs can be great. Occasionally a defensive back or wide receiver can be a really productive player their first year. Quarterbacks, offensive tackles and defensive ends, seem like they grow into the position at the pro level. Sometimes it might take as long as the third season.
            2. Brees was probably spending over $1M/yr at the end of his career. He didn't take near as many hits as Harrison...

Harrison was a rare exception. The guy spent years as a practice squad guy between Pittsburgh and Baltimore, but he kept investing every single penny he could into strength and conditioning and rehabilitation. He cracked a lineup with Pittsburgh during an injury issue, and his pay quadrupled. He kept investing everything into his body. He came back to the team the next training camp and played 4-5 years at a HOF level. It absolutely is an amazing story.
