    Lotta purple there.

Granted, it's data that are 8 months old, but I wonder if things have turned around.

Now, add the drop in median income to the 16-17% inflation since 2019, and you'll see why people are unhappy despite what Paul Krugman tells them.

You're right...my feeble eyes didn't see that. Even so, the US overall is down 1.6%.

How much of that is work-from-home migration?

Eg Silicon Valley dude moves from CA to ID, lowers CA average, raises ID.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

To be honest, these numbers are quite a bit better than I would have expected, given what inflation's been doing. I would have thought it would take a while for wages to catch up, as companies are generally loath to give out big pay rises.

          I was only joking

How many "people" read or hear Krugman?

What do you believe Krugman told these "people"?

              This.

ETA: The response to "How many people?" might be a small number. It is, after all, CNN

@George-K Thanks for linking that tweet.[1] I wouldn't have heard what Krugman says without that link. Krugman has small audience indeed.

[1] Is a post on X still called a "tweet"?

I don’t know but if the post is true we should call it an X post facto.

US poverty rate jumped in 2022, child poverty more than doubled

The poverty rate in the United States increased last year, the first increase in 13 years, according to the Census Bureau.

In 2022, the poverty rate was 12.4%, up 4.6% from 2021, according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM), which looks at government programs and tax credits designed to help low-income families, according to the census.

The expiration of pandemic programs, including refundable tax credits and stimulus payments, at the start of 2022, led to an increase in the SPM over the official poverty rate, the census reported.

The poverty rate among children saw a sizeable increase, more than doubling from 5.2% in 2021 to 12.4% last year, census data shows.

The childhood poverty rate was artificially lowered via pandemic subsidies, of course it jumped back up once the subsidies stop.
