My first job out of college, I got my first paycheck on the same day I was out of gas money. No problem. The company used PNC Bank and there was a PNC Bank across the parking lot…I could cash the check and go get gas…
I go over to cash the check and they say “nope, you need to have an account, but if I open an account today, I can take home 50% of the pay”. I argued with them (including the manager) for 20 minutes to no avail so finally I opened an account, took my 50%, and walked out. I walked right back in and loudly asked “who do I see about closing my account?” Closed the account and took the money home. The next pay period I went in with the check and they cashed it.

I once received a slightly bemused reply from one of my engineers after "telling" him he was a wonderful man and that I had a great deal of respect for him.
