A 63-year-old hiker was rescued Friday night at the Grand Canyon after his four friends called for help and continued backpacking without him. Rescuers say the man had a “traumatic injury to his shoulder that needed emergency medical attention and evacuation.”

I imagine there will be some interesting conversations in the next couple of weeks.

Though, I can see the injured guy saying, "Listen, go ahead and I'll be fine. Help's on the way."

I would not be that guy.

They took the phone. He apparently had no way to communicate.

Regardless of all that, I would never ever leave someone alone like that.

They’re going to get so much fecus sent their way. It’ll be fun to hear the excuses they come up with.

It's possible that he demanded everybody go on without him, and it's possible that that was the best thing to do. Also it appears the whole situation ended as well as it could have.

And maybe the Uvalde cops did the right thing after all.

The fall happened at 2 PM. They didn't get to him until dark and barely found him. Not the standard of care I would have wanted.

Too much judgement with too little information. Neither the injured/rescued man nor any of his hiking friends has made any statement yet.

Try not to judge too quickly, especially when you don't really know much about an incident.

I hope we get more information. I’m curious if this is cut and dried as everybody but ol’ Ax and I seem to think.

I wonder if they would have been able to get out had they waited. It's not a good area to wander in the dark. The helicopter had to land 1/4 mile away.

For me it entirely depends on what "and continued backpacking" means.

Yeah, there could always be more to this, but taking the phone with them seems pretty dodgy.

I can't really imagine why anybody would leave the guy behind if there was any danger of him coming to harm.

                                    I was only joking

I’m thinking there might have been a reason why they didn’t want to be in the area when authorities arrived?
