I think Trump will come in at 15 weeks, but still support it being a state issue, not federal.

Yup. He criticized DeSantis as being extreme on the issue.

And by "positioning," I think you mean "triangulating."

As @Klaus said, "Pick a number, 12-15 weeks, and make EVERYONE unhappy."

      Works for me.

General question, but this issue seems to be either an "all or nothing". Picking anything above 0 weeks seems to say that you are tacitly okay with abortion.

If 15 weeks is okay, why not 16 week?

If 15 weeks is bad, but 6 weeks is okay, why is that?

Yeah, I guess it is just trying to hold your position on the matter, but also try to get some votes.

          Yes.

But...a fetus is not viable at 15 weeks.

And, on the other hand, in a jurisdiction with no restrictions on abortion, if I shoot a pregnant woman in the abdomen, and the fetus dies, I can be tried fro murder.

          You expect consistency? C'mon.

@Klaus said it best - piss everyone off.

            No, it's not.

It's like the question whether it's hot outside. 100F is definitely hot. 20F is definitely not hot. But there's a grey area in between.

If you’re Maga you have one and only one policy preference, “Trump’s the guy”. Everything else is negotiable.

Seriously LD, try to image Trump’s base leaving him over a policy issue. You can’t do it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

                  Philosophically or politically?

Philosophically and theologically, no. Politically, it's about the best he can do.

Again, politics is the art of the possible. You can't accomplish much, if you can't get elected.
