      Some reason, not able to access MSN articles, but I understand what it is saying.

      On a related note to that, the "disfunction" in the US congress that has prevented approval of diplomats had an impact on the US ability to respond and possibly have influence in preventing the recent coupe in Niger.

      My understanding is that the US has not been able to get a West Africa envoy or a ambassador for Niger into place and the positions have been vacant for a while.

      It left an opening for countries such as Russia and China to work with the military that took over the country. And Niger has a lot of unused natural resources.
