Yeah, it is unbelievable that this stuff was flourishing under the Trump/Devos Department of Education.

These books, these issues, and these curriculums have been in the schools for over a decade. They are discussed at the national conferences (librarians and educators) as well as state. Their ignorance of this the porn and complete passivity over the DEI stuff and the 1619 Project that received massive attention is damning.
We didn’t know is no excuse when it’s your job to know.

The problem may have existed, but I don't think it was nearly as prominent in 2018 as today. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I don't see multiple news articles on it from that time.

Let's see ... maybe the GOP was busy talking about abortion back then. Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned and subsequent push to nationalize stricter abortion bans have proven to be a losing proposition for the GOP, the GOP needs new talking points on the culture war front and landed on vilifying transgenderism; "transgenders going into women's bathrooms," "transgenders breaking women's sports," "transgenders in library books == porn for kids", "transgender care == medical malpractice" are but variations on the same theme.
