When I Google the only alternative ending is the bad guy succeeding in going back in time to help the nazis win and Indy having to follow him there and stop him.

Not sure how that would anger anyone.

Young Indy dies in the past. This causes a paradox which causes old Indy to fade away to nothing as he never existed. As this happened prior to Raiders and all of the movies, they never happened… Of course, that would mean the Nazis win… So our intrepid young female hero takes on Indy’s mantle. They then proceeded to show snapshots of her in full Indy regalia at various points in Indiana’s movie adventures… Climbing aboard the sub in Raiders, rescuing the Indian kids in Temple of Doom, etc…

The audience at the screenings went nuts. And remember, these aren’t regular test screenings. Disney and LucasFilm only give “friends and family” screenings. The audience is very friendly to the product…

I also understand that they cut out about 30% of the young lady calling Indy out on his white male privilege and calling him a colonizer that stole from indigenous peoples. They kept some, of course…

Now the producers denied it, but there were dozens of reports at the time. Then a few months later John Williams spilled the beans in an interview that he had essentially had to restore the entire second half of the movie due to an immense reshoot.

I have to admit, I'm struggling to force myself to give a huge shit about this. At least Hollywood is only re-writing completely made-up history, rather than the actual stuff.

          U-571 anybody?

I suppose they are trying to be able to make more Indy movies without Harrison Ford. Yawn.

Why bother? We're a year or two out from AI actors. Why not just wait?

The original Jones movies had a white male hero.

                This is always a mistake.

The issue as I understand it was the one dimensional sneering girl boss who is great at everything because girl boss.

There was a girl boss in the beginning and she gets capped early.

The goddaughter never came across that way.

Nah, it's not particularly informative. Just him railing on how Kennedy's turned everything once beloved into a dumpster fire.

ETA: But it's worth watching just to hear him pronounce "you."

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
