Semi-related - In the work I do, I've noticed an ever-increasing reliance on vast quantities of warnings. Historically, my job has been to assess equipment to determine whether it can cause an explosion, and we never used to worry too much about equipment instructions, but would review the actual equipment design.
Nowadays, we have to review the instructions, and there are a number of people who I've dealt with who seem to think that the most important aspect of what we do is check labels and instructions. They're not actually technical people themselves, but they spend vast amounts of time checking them, and cause endless delays in getting everything 100% right.
What seems to elude these individuals is that people rarely read the instruction manuals, and that labels are generally covered in shite within a few weeks of installation.
