    Seen on FB...

    Unusual angle of the bridge

    image.jpeg

"In more ways than one. Keep in mind that this view faces the true forward bow. The bridge is angled to the left by about 36 degrees:"

    image.jpeg

    but

"...this is a retcon. The bridge was not designed to be 36° off center, the turbolift doors were off center.

Walter M. Jefferies designed the bridge to look functional, but to also help directors photograph it. By having the turbolift off center, a director could get a close-up of whomever was in the Captain's chair, and have an awesome red background behind them - I mean, this was for COLOR TV.

The actors always reacted as if the viewing screen is direct front. This was to make sense for the TV audience. Imagine a force which stops the Enterprise cold in space, and all of the actors have to slump 36° to the right. That wouldn't look natural at all, it would look stupid."

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Didn’t know they had a “head” ( not toilet on a ship btw) up front where the whole bridge crew could watch you run scared shitless as the romulans or Klingons approached

It is The Enterprise - D, so....

        https://whatculture.com/tv/star-trek-10-secrets-of-the-next-generation-main-bridge?page=8

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier famously featured the only appearance of a toilet aboard a Starfleet vessel and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine made the occasional reference to "waste extraction" (whatever that is), but restrooms have mostly gone unseen in the Star Trek Universe.

However, the bridge of the Enterprise-D did have a bathroom... at least some of the time.

The Enterprise-D bridge set featured six doors around its circumference: Two led to turbolifts, another led to the dedicated battle bridge turbolift, another led to Captain Picard's ready room, and yet another led to the observation lounge. All five of these doors were used by the command crew throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, but the sixth door was only ever shown being used by background actors.

Located directly across from the observation lounge at the rear of the bridge, this sixth door was labelled "Conference" until some time in TNG's seventh season when the signage was changed to "Head", aka the bathroom.

According to illustrator Rick Sternbach's blueprints of the Enterprise-D there was indeed a small bathroom behind that door, complete with two sinks and a toilet. But just one.

Somewhere around here in a box I have the official blue prints for the Enterprise. They must be over 50 years old, so they only cover the original.

            @Copper said in Trek Trivia:

The head is not in these blueprints, but the angle is there.
