Two people were killed when a plane crashed into Lake Winnebago Saturday morning.
The bodies of both people have been recovered by divers working into Saturday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which was assisting in recovery efforts.
The sheriff's office said it got multiple calls at around 9:06 a.m. about a plane crashing into the lake. Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue shift commander Troy Jahns said the plane went into the lake between Oshkosh and Neenah.
The plane is a T-6 Texan aircraft, according to an earlier tweet from the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes. It was reportedly maneuvering before rapidly descending from about 3,000 feet altitude, the Coast Guard said, adding that the lake is about 20 feet deep, with poor visibility, at the crash site.
Saturday afternoon, two people were killed and two were injured when a helicopter and a gyrocopter collided in mid-air at Wittman Regional Airport, the site of EAA's AirVenture event, the EAA said.
There have been five crashes in the region during AirVenture, which started Monday and ends Sunday. No one was seriously hurt in the other crashes before Saturday.
