I don't get Gutfeld's appeal

He's a funny guy, with a snark that really appeals to me.

His gabfest has consistently done very well in the ratings, at least it did before he moved to the 10 PM slot, beating Fallon and Kimmel.

But...

Fallon is striving to be a latter-day Carson - basically a nice guy (at least on air) with a ton of celebrities that come on his show to hawk their latest movie, show, whatever.

Kimmel is a nastier SOB, more in the mold of Letterman. He also has guests who are known in the world of popular culture.

But Gutfeld?

I've never watched his PM show until a few days ago, and it's just a bunch of Fox personalities with some I-never-heard-of folks sitting around talking about current events. I really don't understand what drives his ratings.

Also, gotta wonder how well he's doing in the new time slot.

Why Gutfeld?

They're occasionally funny.

He is annoying.

The ratio of annoying to clever is about 4 to 1.

A few years ago I caught a clip of his show and it did have the vibe of undergraduates up late in a dorm just talking about whatever.

Which is why FOX has made a mistake. Gutfeld! Should not have moved to the 9pm(CDT) slot.
