Popularity ≠ Sales
Let’s not forget that it’s still #2 in sales and a fair bit over #3. I think the 28% loss is more or less permanent, but that’s still a helluva lot of beer sold.

Seems like Costco in the US may see the "writing on the wall"
"If Costco takes Bud Light off its shelves, it's not making a political statement. Instead, the warehouse club will be deciding based on sales. And the chain appears to have made that decision due to a decline in interest in the brand.
When Costco is discontinuing an item, it puts what's widely known as the "star of death," a small asterisk, at the top corner of the item's price tag. That's widely known to be a signal to store associates that the item will not be restocked once it sells out.
Various Costco members have taken to social media to say that they have seen the so-called star of death on various Bud Light SKUs at the warehouse club. Others have also reported very low prices on the beer brand."

I very much doubt it’s permanent. Beer drinkers tend to have short memories, for obvious reasons.

Dunno.
At the level of Bud Lite, most beers taste the same

It’s the beer drinker’s short memory that makes me think it’s permanent. We’re at 3 months. I would have expected sales to have started getting better by this point. I think people switched to Miller, Coors, and Yuengling in the meantime and said “hey this is better anyway!”

The other thing that will happen is lower shelf presence will cost them market share as well. I think there’s going to be another dip in sales around Labor Day as beer stores will prioritize other brands.

Thought the Costco thing was important. Business people, like all people, are herd animals.
If one of the bigger retailers is actively downgrading Bud Lite, watch some smaller guys give them even less space.

The Costco Star does not mean a product is being discontinued. It generally just means the price is reduced below normal. Sometimes it’s due to being discontinued from Costco, but it’s just as likely to be an overstock issue.
My bet is that Costco ordered the usual summer’s worth of Bud Light, but a 28% drop in sales has resulted in a LOT of cases of beer rapidly approaching their sell by date.
You will likely see less Bud Light on the shelves, but it will still be there…
