When you have a built in user base of about a billion and a half….

For sure. The basis of the success was the user base. You don’t need a large percentage of 1.5B people to set a record in app take up.

            Exactly right.

Anyone here think that Threads is a one-off? Of course not. Ten bucks says they're building out an integrated social media suite.

I hope it fails. Twitter is destructive enough - Meta will likely execute and monetize better.

Well, there you have it. The people want social media. Why would make for an interesting study: what are the people missing actually that social media provide?

                Guess they're here for good.

People are in emotional silos. They don't have the number of friends or acquaintances their grandparents did. They don't go to church or join social/service organizations. Heck, they can't even get a Saturday night date without the internet.

So the internet becomes all. The electronic wife/husband/mother/father/extended family/neighbor. Perception becomes reality.

News reports I glanced at mostly characterize Thread as a Twitter clone. @Aqua-Letifer seems to think Thread is a lot more. I haven't look much into Thread myself. Any helpful article you can point me to that can educate me on how or why Thread can be so much more than a Twitter wannabe? Thanks.

The article that gave me the most comprehensive breakdown was "Maybe Download the Freaking Thing to See for Yourself."
