Anyone following the Tchaikovsky competition?

I'm, once more, baffled by the amount of repertoire these pianists are expected to play during the competition.
First round, 40-50 minutes of solo repertoire.
Second round, 50-60 minutes of solo repertoire.
Third round, two (!!) full piano concertos.I need many weeks of practice for a mediocre rendition of a 5 minute piece. How can these kids learn that much repertoire on that professional level? I find that really impressive.
