Was just going to post this. I'd noticed the stock market falling off a cliff and went to money.cnn.com to see why*, where this was front page news.
It still might be money well spent by Starbucks, who knows. Their bean counters would have had to predict how much they'd lose in a social backlash over an unappeased mob, with its accusations of racism.
*something about a fed meeting, and interest rates.

The 2018 incident was a major PR crisis for the company. In the wake of the arrests, Starbucks took several steps to try to alleviate the situation.
Then-CEO Kevin Johnson apologized, saying that what happened was “reprehensible” and promising to make any changes needed to make sure that something like it doesn’t happen again.
He could have just publicly castrated himself and identified as a woman. Kill two stones with one bird.
