If I read this right, they're extending the route of the Crescent, which originates in New York and heads to NOLA via Atlanta and Birmingham. I would guess the plan is to make it a "split" train, much like the Empire Builder is - it leaves Chicago and in Spokane, it splits into Portland and Seattle sections. Here the Crescent would split into Dallas and NOLA sections.
I imagine it's about a 10 hour trip to Dallas.
