My news hack
-
I love this.
- Get the links to the RSS feeds for your favorite news sources. (Some sites have a feed they don't really publicize; if you check the source code in developer tools for rss or atom, you can often find the link there.)
- For rss feeds for topics instead of publications, set up a Google news alert. But instead of having it emailed to you, choose "send to rss feed" instead. It'll make you a link.
- Set up an iOS shortcut that 1) makes you choose a selection from a list that's attached to your RSS feeds; 2) visits the feed's URL and presents you with the most recent 15 articles in the feed. Then choose the articles in the feed to open up in Safari. (I don't do that last, though. I have those articles sent to my Pocket account because my eReader integrates with that. So I spend a couple seconds picking the articles I want to save, and the next time I pick up my eReader, there they are. No ads.)
