    I'm reading the "Look Inside" of a book whose preface describes an endurance race the author took part in -- a 60-mile cross-country ski in snow and freeze, and as it turned out, filled with mishaps that were dire and terrible and life threatening, including spending the night in -30 degrees and Arctic blast winds, and no tent.

    A few days ago you told us of the long walk you're contemplating. As I read this passage in the book, I thought of you.

    "An inverse correlation links how miserable you feel in the race and how great you feel after it, so you can bet I felt like a million bucks afterwards. When you break through the other side of hell and finish an event that did not seem possible, that stopped you in your tracks over and over, something happens. You feel accomplished, incredibly proud of yourself, and in some ways, a different person.

    <Snip>

    Challenging yourself to accomplish more than you know you can is never stupid -- it helps show you what you are capable of. It creates a new frame of reference, one you can draw upon in the face of other things that are perceived as being tough in your life. It shows you possibilities you didn't know existed."

    Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka

      Wise words @Catseye3 !!

      If you would be interested in a book like the one you describe above, please read "In the Kingdom of Ice".

      "A white-knuckle tale of polar exploration and survival in the Gilded Age."

      In the Kingdom of Ice

      It really made an impression on me. They end up literally eating their shoes to survive. Crazy!!!

        Thanks, TG. I'm reading my book for other reasons than the trek, but thanks for the suggestion. 😊
