You can only drink so much rum...

Got an email from a headhunter. I politely replied thank you, but no thank you. We exchanged a couple more emails before the headhunter was convinced I was not interested.
First, I'm too damn old. Second, I know the type job very well...You live with it. I'm over the need for 2AM phone calls.
But my thoughts trailed off in another direction...The job was in the U.S. Virgin Islands. After a few weeks, why would anybody want the job?
No family, no friends in the vicinity. It's not like you hop in the car and drive an hour or a few hours to go to a grandchild's birthday or some other family function.
One can only do so much saltwater fishing. I'm not into the scuba diving or water sports scene. You're on an island, but since you're also on a grey area of perpetual call, where are you going to go that you can't get back in a timely manner?
I guess one could lay out on the beach and drink rum, but I'd run the risk of people dragging me back in the water. And too much rum is bad for you.
Another thing...In the event a storm blows up, you're essential personnel and you ain't going anywhere. Let the wind blow and ride it out.
Wonder what type person would enjoy a job in that part of the world?

Only if they're from someplace interesting. American Samoa, for example.
But the thread starter is more of a universal question...Would any of you take a job in a location like that? Especially if you have a family...

Not now, but I definitely would have done when I was younger. I've emigrated twice to considerably less interesting places.
