Tornado watch issued for wide swath of Iowa Saturday
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued earlier for Polk, Madison, Dallas and Warren counties and lasted until 1 p.m. Saturday.
A tornado warning also had been issued in the early afternoon for northwestern Marion County and east central Warren County in south central Iowa. A severe thunderstorm thought capable of producing a tornado was located over Sandyville moving northeast at 15 miles per hour, according to a National Weather Service report.
Des Moines is in Polk County. This is about 100 miles north of Des Moines.
