You've said it before, the whole ethanol thing is stupid.

I wish they'd subsidise my ethanol.

Whether ethanol is smart or stupid has no bearing on its fundamental value as a molecule.

It has redeeming qualities. It gets unattractive ladies laid every day.

I agree, especially when used for fuel. I am a big supporter of agriculture in general, but it is slowly necessary to move in a different direction for ethanol being added to fuel.
There is a lot of interesting stuff being done with "biomass" for fuel. For example, corn husks, etc. And one big advantage of making biofuel from that is that it does not require a separate pipeline, etc. It can blend directly with regular fuel.

Don't even need to blend it with regular fuel for biodiesel. Problem is the break-even point. Used to be around $75/barrel, but that was a few years ago.

Agree 100%. Bio fuel is a tough economic situation when oil prices are low.
For example, Thailand had a mandate for 10% bio fuel in the fuel area. That has been changed to 7% and is now been lowered to 5% for the time being.
But costs for production of biofuels are coming down all the time.

Yeah, I think that is a great idea. In SE Asia, palm oil or jatropa oil is big as the feed for biofuel. It was becoming such a problem that Thailand has require that feed for biofuel cannot come from "things" that have replaced human food plots. In other words, companies cannot plant acre and acre of palm trees for biofuel if it replaced rice fields.
