No, but they have to use wooden or metal wheels I believe.

Last time I checked this out, it seems that the Amish prohibit anything that is "fancy." IOW, "plainness" is a virtue in and of itself. If something can be done in a "plain" fashion (like a horse and buggy) it is to be prized. But, if there is a better way which is not ostentatious, that's OK.
Still, I don't understand how an automobile is not "plain" and an electric bike is.
I wonder if this will lead to the slippery slope of allowing electric woodworking tools.

The lines in the sand are different, depending on the sect. Old Order, New Order and Mennonites are all different. There's even minor variability among families.
These things also change over time. Most Amish communities disallowed smartphones when they first came out (obviously). Now, some allow them with limited data plans, others with limited data and only the allowed apps, some still not at all. Like all their other lines in the sand, it's more or less self-policing.

Believe me, I know that. Some will allow electrified woodworking tools, others will only allow tools that are powered by a water wheel and pulleys.
It reminds me of that old "What denomination are you?" joke.

I think that the strictest is the Swartzentruber Amish. I do not believe that they even allow cushions in their house, except on the beds. Make it uncomfortable to sit around, and people won't sit around - they will go and do something. LOL
