Considering the relative speed with which they got him, I assume the amount of evidence they have linking him to the "leak" is yuge.

If he was that easy to catch, why wasn't this nipped in the bud?

With any luck, President Biden will follow President Obama's precedent and commute the alleged leaker's sentence if he's convicted.
Maybe he (the leaker) should transition to female-ness so as to increase his odds of a presidential commutation.
Not that I'm cynical, of course.

How could someone so young with minimal experience have access to such material.
My prediction is that he was trying to impress the other members of his forum board. "Hey, look at what I was able to get a hold of at work. BUT, you cannot share this with anybody. It is TOP SECRET!! I trust that none of you guys will pass this on to others outside of our little club."

Early information suggests he was trying impress his online friends and nothing more. Unlike Snowden and Manning he appears to have no ideological motivation. Nor does there appear to be a material inducement.
I cannot imagine how a reservist subaltern could have access to that sort of classified intelligence let alone copy or take personal hold of it. I guess times have changed a lot since my years of service.
In those days classified docs were strictly on a need to know basis and even then never left the room in which they were stored. Junior officers with clearance and written permission from their immediate superior, were permitted to handle and read docs only in the presence of a Chief Warrant Officer with special security intelligence unit clearance and who reported directly to the regimental C.O..

And yet...The military says the Pentagon is too small and they want to build a bigger building. Seems to me, the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing, so why do we need more hands?
