    Spouse has a Gibson guitar in the back of a closet. It's been there a few years. I believe it is from the late 60s or early 70s. There's also Gretsch amp that is all original - lights up - but no sound. Any idea of the model & value of each?alt text

      They both need to be inspected and appraised. They are old enough to command a premium, especially the Gibson.

      Model #'s?

      I might be interested in both of them depending on condition and market values. They can get kind of ridiculous which is good for you. Bad for me. lol

        I think the guitar is an ES-125 archtop.

        I don't know much about value, but some swift Googling indicates they go for around $1500 - $1700.

        I was only joking

          Assuming it doesn't need a neck reset or other repairs. A lot of guitars that old, will need a neck reset.

            @Doctor-Phibes That sounds right. I believe it is a 125 p. I couldn't locate a serial number.

              It belongs to my spouse - so it will likely remain in the closet for another 20 years or so. She hangs onto anything that doesn't crawl away. I just wanted to get a sense of if we could add a wing to the house with its resale value.

                Somewhat off-topic, but related.

                If you store a guitar for years, should you loosen the strings so there is not continuous tension on the neck?

                We've got an hmmm, not sure but it was expensive when I bought it for my daughter. Stuffed in a closet somewhere around here.

                  I think you should loosen the strings a little - maybe 1 or 2 half-steps. You don't want to remove all the tension.

                    That would buy a lot of wings. Beer too.

                      Thanks, Phibes. I need to see if I can find it. Decrease tension by a whole step each string. Got it, thanks again.
