Condolences to the Day family.
Lousy reporting by the news site, no mention of cause of death.

It's become rather standard to omit cause of death lately. I think it's a good thing. The information is not of any real value to the public.

I thought about this . . . It seems that the leaving of one's life is a part of that life's story. To leave it out is like truncating the story before the end. Leaving off the COD feels incomplete. It's like the wrapup.

Is it any of our business? The details will no doubt emerge in time.

That's a good question! But why shouldn't it be, really, any more than the details of the life while s/he was living?
It's a hard thing, to die with dignity, so as not to lose respect. But the recounting of the death needn't be overly detailed.

I don’t expect to see cause of death in an obituary.
But I still expects it in news.
Who, what, when, where, WHY.
The “cause of death” is the WHY for news about someone dying, and the WHY is still important if you want to call it news.
