Sunday Afternoon Hollywood Trivia
-
I started my career in 1937, by screen-testing for the female lead in GWTW. I didn't get the part, but Selznick thought I had some star qualities, so he kept me around to play the part of Scarlet in screen tests with other actors for the movie. That was good enough to get a $50/week contract at Warner Brothers.
I didn't resign with them.
I signed a contract with Paramount for $250/week. I made a few pictures, got lent out to Columbia for a couple of pictures, then lent out to Republic for a couple of pictures, then back to Paramount. Always second banana, never the lead.
Until...I'd been knocking around Hollywood for almost ten years and I suddenly got a lead role! And another. And another. And I kept going until I was nominated for an Academy Award. Or more. I even starred in some top-grossing pictures.
Oh, and one other thing...The U.S. government accidently killed me. Bummer.
Who am I?
