I love how the price is $0.37 - $459.99. 😄 It would have been as helpful to say "an amount."

I've no idea what we have on ours right now. There's a guy near here who "sells" firewood in the spring. Basically the deal is, you stack and haul it, the rest is free. We've been doing that the past couple years.

I think it probably is easier once you have the log horizontal, and you only handle the pieces once. The saw is doing the work, as opposed to cutting lengths, picking it up, splitting it and restacking it. Even if you have a gas splitter.

Sure but it'd probably take longer. And definitely you're wearing out your chainsaw faster.

Not to mention the mound of sawdust you're going to create.

                    $459.99/reel. That's 100 feet.

Always keep a file in your back pocket.
Sawdust is good for the compost pile.
Logsplitters are expensive, unless you want to do it the old-timey way.

Actually, the fastest way is to make an Alaskan Cradle. Helps to have a FEL on your tractor.

I seriously doubt it would take longer. And it's a lot easier on your back to pick up a 2" slice of a tree than an 18" one.

                          Chainsaws don't cost that much.

What you do is buy a splitter that will allow you to split vertically and horizontally. Use a hookeroon to move your block into position and quarter it. After you get your quarters, put it in horizontal and load.

Of course, if you're young, dumb and full of...whatever, pick those blocks up and load them on the horizontal. Now, one square foot of green oak or hickory weighs about 70 pounds. Back in the day, I could pretty easily load anything short of a 24" wide, 20" long block (you can do the match weight, I'm too lazy). Half your block, kick off the far half and work it one-half at a time.

I mentioned an Alaskan rack. If you've got smaller stuff or if you've got a tractor with a FEL to stack bigger stuff, you can walk through some stuff like this:
