Trump says he expects to be arrested on Tuesday
-
Yep, a state arrests on a charge the feds wouldn't touch...
-
McCarthy has an interesting take on all of this.
tl;dr version
- Paying hush money is not illegal.
- Where the money came from is...complicated
- Statute of limitations is a big factor, also complicated.
Bottom line - thin case for Bragg, who had already dropped it in the past.
-
Two words.
John Edwards.

I think the misdemeanor case is solid, but the felony is very weak (to jolly’s point about Edwards). I suspect this guy will overreach, but I hope not.

All of which skates over entirely how unsuited he is to hold office. I mean, who cares if he's suited? So long as there is plenty of fodder to fuck around with.
Adding my bit: A good thing would be for Tuesday to come and go with nothing happening. No arrest, and protesters standing around holding their peckers and their posters of outrage dragging in the dirt.
Not that Trump wouldn't have an explanation for it. You can massage anything if you have no respect for truth.

McCarthy's point is that the statute of limitations for the misdemeanor is two years, but for the felony is five.
If Bragg cannot prove the felony, we are left with misdemeanor falsification of records and the two-year statute of limitations would apply. We don’t know all the accounting facts, but we can probably assume that that has run by now — indeed, it likely lapsed in 2020 or 2021. If it’s just a misdemeanor, Trump is probably right that the case is time-barred.

Face it, if Trump could win reelection, just think how many people's lives could reaquire True Meaning.

That’s a great post, Cats.

Agreed. But, as Scott Adams said, "If Trump ends up in handcuffs, he will be your next president."
Not sure how that'll work out, but it will certainly rile up his base.

I think they continue making the same mistake as during his term - trying to turn him into the boogeyman. All that does is make him look some perversion of noble and keep him in the public eye.
He should be ignored. It would precipitate increasingly outrageous behavior on his part and accomplish their aims far more effectively.

It's really surprising how stupid politicians can be.

If you assume their goals are not their ideology but rather their personal advancement in the social hierarchy, their behavior might make more sense.

So it's a choice between stupidity and sociopathy. Great.

A motivation for social advancement, and an inability to disentangle one's personal ambitions from alleged ideological motivations, is way too normal to be considered sociopathic or aberrant.
