I spent about 4 days in San Francisco in 2014. I am the son of immigrants who were fleeing oppression and possible slavery.

So a city that never allowed slavery in a state that never allowed slavery is now considering giving $5,000,000 per African American in reparations. The board of supervisors voiced unanimous support, though some expressed shock that some of their liberal constituents are opposed. The vote isn’t until June, but I don’t see how they can walk this back.

So a state that never had slaves is telling people who never owned slaves that they should give money to people who never were slaves.

      Did I get that right?

They paid a group of people to develop these recommendations, by the way. Any guesses as to the academic credentials of those people? I mean, I don't know, but maybe this is how -studies degrees manifest in the real world.

Imagine how many black residents they’d have the day after the vote.

By the way, quick math is this would cost 200B, which is almost 300k per resident.

The total SF budget is 8.8B

One good thing about this case is it would allow a test case that could get to scotus to rule out the idea of race-based government payments for all time. Or at least for many decades.

The AIs will force lots of redistribution laws. So much money, we'll ultimately be looking for excuses to dole it out to the masses who will be literally incapable of contributing meaningfully to the free market.

They've already done this for one family who owned quite a bit of what I think is now Huntington Beach. They were screwed out of land they legitimately owned. The city gave them the park back, which they then sold back to the city for $20M. I find this somewhat different than mass reparations just because your ancestors were slaves.

But if anyone really deserves reparations in San Francisco, it’s the Chinese…https://www.sfexaminer.com/our_sections/forum/are-chinese-american-reparations-in-san-francisco-next/article_9b316c82-a8de-11ed-82de-7fd770bf880b.html
