Another surprising EV stat

There’s quite a lot of missing context…
-
Supply chain…Dealer inventory is only now getting back to normal. The numbers in the report reflect the period when they didn’t have any new inventory…
-
Need dropped as well… A lot of people still working from home or working a hybrid model. Less wear and tear on the vehicles equals longer life and lower replacement.
Let’s see where we are in 2025… I don’t think EV’s will be back at 5% of new car sales, but I doubt it will be 1 in 7, either…

I know we have talked about this a bit, but attached is a review of the BMW ix5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. ~300 mile range, and 3-4 minutes to refuel.
Interesting that Japan (where Toyota has been heavy into H2 cars) has 116 hydrogen "gas" stations, and wants to increase this to 1000.

Hasn't Toyota backed off of the hydrogen tech?

Not sure about Toyota but Mercedes backed off of it stating that it was prohibitively expensive to manufacture them. They started the tech and were the first to abandon it after spending untold amounts of money on the research and development.

Doesn't appear that way based on recent comments from the Toyota CEO.
QUOTEThe world has become increasingly electrified since the turn of the 20th century, and as the dawn of the 21st came and went, vehicles have started to follow suit. The automobile industry has most definitely come a long way since its humble beginnings, and some of the big names are now making very calculated moves in the new green energy push - including Toyota. While embracing the overall 'carbon-neutral' mindset, CEO Akio Toyoda believes that EVs aren't the only way forward, and so he continues to embrace a full array of technological options as he takes Toyota above and beyond the limits of electric vehicles and breaks ground in new and exciting powertrain alternatives.

@taiwan_girl Arent you conflating EVs with Hydrogen?
Easy enough since hydrogen fuel cells basically act as batteries.

@jon-nyc I had to look up the definition of conflate. LOL.
Means to to bring together or to blend.
I believe that in the article, EV was referring to "traditional" electric powering a battery vehicle. I believe that Toyota is looking at H2 vehicles as different from "EV's"
(But I am actually not 100% sure, so will have to research more)
