What he's not talking about is the current on-line dating culture. Women are actively pursuing the top 10% of males. And they are pursuing guys older than they are, which is not unusual.
So...Be a broke 26 year-old, with average looks and a high school education, and see how far you get on-line.....

I don’t think the dynamic is all that different than the old IRL dynamic. Women were always extra-choosy, and the top x% of males have always had far more options than the rest.
What the online aspect does is make it more efficient.

I'd have to agree with Jon. It's always been that way. What I think is different is that in the past you had to go out and mingle to have any sort of social life at all, much less a girlfriend. There's a lot less impetus to do that now, and it's a sad thing.
I say this while I spend a couple hours today talking with my imaginary friends.

There used to be more social pressure for both genders to get married young.
That’s fading.
Not sure it’s all to do with the internet.

There is a lot to recommend marrying young, if both are mature. One can help the other through school or the start of a career, then that can be reciprocated. It's better for the woman to have her first child before 30. Especially for the woman, but something that applies to both partners, the less sexual partners they have before marriage, the less chance of infidelity within the marriage.

More than one study has been done on sexual partners before a marriage and infidelity within the marriage. Can't recall the number for men, but the magic number for women is three. Three and under doesn't seem to make much difference. Over three and the infidelity rate skyrockets.
Personally, I just jot that one down to common sense. The more partners you have, the less satisfied you'll be with one person for life.
