    Those crazy Canadiens!

LILLEY: High school student suspended, arrested for saying only 2 genders

    Author of the article:Brian Lilley

    Published Feb 08, 2023 • Last updated Feb 10, 2023 • 3 minute read

In the name of diversity, a Catholic school in Renfrew suspended a student and had him arrested for saying there are only two genders.

Josh Alexander was suspended last November over comments made about gender in class and told he couldn’t return to class until he recanted.

On Monday, Alexander returned to class and was promptly met by the vice-principal, arrested by two local police officers and charged with trespassing. The now seemingly former student of St. Joseph’s Catholic High School told the National Post in an interview that he made comments during a class discussion on gender.

“It was about male students using female washrooms, gender dysphoria and male breastfeeding. Everyone was sharing their opinions on it, any student who wanted to was participating, including the teacher,” Alexander said.

“I said there were only two genders, and you were born either a male or a female, and that got me into trouble. And then I said that gender doesn’t trump biology.”

    Lock him up.

Well, strictly speaking, he was arrested for trespassing during his suspension, which was the result of his statements.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

          There's only one true Church.

I'm thinking there may be more to this story than is being reported.

          I was only joking

            @LuFins-Dad

Catholic schools are not private up here. Not sure how it works in Ontario but here in Alberta property owners choose to which school board their school taxes are to be allocated. The board trustees are elected during municipal elections. Voters choose whether they want the ballot sheet for either Catholic or Public School trustees. The Church itself has only nominal input into the operations of schools other than the focus of the religious curriculum and instruction.

Not an efficient system or arrangement but one which is has been in place since before Confederation in 1867 in Eastern Canada or, as in the case of the Western provinces, since 1905 when they were granted provincial status through an act of Parliament in Ottawa.

In my opinion it is an anachronism that really ought to be reformed but nobody wants to reform lest a populist tempest arise.

As for the issue in the article, it is in a municipality in Ontario and therefore of zero consequence to me or my family or any school board policies in the province we live. All I can say is next municipal election in Renfrew, Ontario, parents should be more mindful as to who they elect as trustees.

            Elbows up!

From what I can tell, probably not a lot other than he was not an RC but rather a member of an evangelical ecclesial community and, how the school board itself responded when asked:

Regarding human rights issues, the statement explained the “board takes its guidance from the policies issued by the Ontario Human Rights (OHR) Commission and directives issued by the Ministry of Education.” In regard to washroom access, the school board states the OHR guidelines stipulate trans people “have the right to access these facilities based on their lived gender identity.”

Edit: Am thinking that as it were, young Mr. Alexander was in wrong school from the onset and would have been better served attending one of the private Christian schools in his district.

              Elbows up!
