Dropped by the grocery store on the way home from town, and it was a mess. One lane open and four self-checkout stations. So, the lines are long.

I'm in line for one of the self-checkout lanes, and people are moving as spots become open. I didn't know they were lined up all the way down a grocery aisle, but I had gotten in line at the end cap. There were people in front and behind me.

As things moved up and I started to straighten in the line, I noticed the look on a lady's face. Her English wasn't the best, but I asked was he ahead of me. We figured out she thought she was, so ma'am please go ahead.

The next guy behind her had walked up after I had gotten there, I knew it. Trying to be polite, I told him and the tall black man behind him, that I thought I was next. I could tell he might have thought I was in error.

At that point in time, the demons of my worse nature decided to show up and I turned to him and the black gentleman with a chickenshit grin and said, "Well fellers, I guess we can go fist city right here and figure this out".

I thought the white guy was going to drop his teeth. The black guy put both hands in the air and said, "Mister, I don't want any trouble. You go ahead".

I said my "Thank y'all" and went to the checkout.

I tried to be as quick as I could and I got my butt out of there. The white guy didn't bother me. I could have whupped him in a heartbeat. The black guy? About Jon's size + 25 pounds.

That dude would have kicked my ass. Sideways.

So … you’re trying to tell us you were saved by “white privilege”? 😉

        Nope. Dumb luck.
