I saw a story about cop shows, and it cited "True Detective" as being a masterpiece (at least the1st season). So, I'm revisiting that.

I watched the 1st episode this morning. Woody Harrelson, as whack as he can be, is a fabulous actor. And McConaughey is just as good. Watching the subtle, almost imperceptible things these guys do is a delight. It reminds me of the director of "Foyle's War" talking about the star, Michael Kitchen, "Kitchen can do with one look of his eye what would take 10 pages of dialog to convey."

    Yeah, it's that good.

      "True Detective..."

The first season had a good, but somewhat unsatisfying ending. There was a lot o philosophizing on the part of McCaunghey's character that was fun. It was dark, disturbing, and brilliantly shot.

This scene was all shot in one take. Almost 5 minutes of nonstop action, with no cuts...

      Link to video

Second season stars Colin Ferrell, Amy McAdam, Vince Vaughan, Kelly Reilly (Beth from Yellowstone) and I guy I can't remember. It twists itself into too many plots, too many irrelevant characters. This is a story that could be told in 4 episodes, but is taking 8. Giving up after four.

Binging through the first half of season 5 of Yellowstone. Actually enjoying quite a bit. I was skeptical of the political turn that it could have taken, but it seems to be working.

Nice backstory on Rip (and Beth).

Jamie becomes more of a snake, if that's possible.

        Moar horses. Moar cowboy porn.

        Fun

True Detective is the shit. Easily one of the best shows of the past 10 years.

fictionalized account of how the streaming service spotify got established.

disclaimer: its in swedish. some of us may need subtitles.

Finished Valhalla yesterday. Not as good as Vikings, but entertaining.

We're watching 'Three Pines' on Amazon Prime. Decent detective show, set in Quebec, starring Alfred Molina - who's even less Canadian than I am. It's fun, probably not particularly realistic. The last episode was set in a country hotel, and not one of the suspects asked for his lawyer to be present. But who cares?

                I was only joking

Yes, you're right. He asked for a lawyer, but then just carried on talking to the police for about 5 minutes.

I thought it was quite funny how closely he resembled Donald Trump Jnr.

I finally got around to watching The Wire. Just finished the first season.

Does start out a bit slow and you need to actively watch and listen to get the most out of it. I'm digging it so far.

Also - very 3 dimensional characters of all races on both the "good" and "bad" side. Very refreshing.

But, you persist and push through it, and you realize what a fantastic piece of drama it is. Vast in scope, great characters, and gritty as hell.

@George-K Definitely a 'subtitles-on' type of show for me.

Even for someone like me that grew up listening to a bunch of gangster rap in the 90's - there's still lots of regional gangsta slang that I didn't know (e.g., cops as 'knockos')

There’s a 4 episode documentary about Madoff on Netflix. Worth the time. Lots of details I had forgotten and/or didn’t know.

                                  "Your Honor"

Bryan Cranston is a judge in New Orleans. His son is involved in a hit and run in which he kills the son of the most powerful mobster in NOLA.

He wants his son to confess, until he learns who the victim of the hit and run is.

                                  Sounds intriguing...

After three episodes....meh. Too much convoluted stuff trying to shoehorn the basic narrative into the Breaking Bad mold of "good guy goes evil."

                                  I'll watch one more.

It was supposed to be a 1-season thing, but it was renewed for a second season. And that, really, trust me, is going to be the last.

I find them all disturbing but very human. Like it.

Fauda. On Netflix. It means chaos in Arabic.

                                          I’m now on season four.

Not for everyone. A very gritty but accurate look of undercover special forces in the Israel Palestinian saga.

It’s not called chaos for nothing.
