That's absolute bullshit.
It's the U.S. Congress. Bad enough they don't have to sit in Congress while bills are debated. If it's important enough to be voted on, a congress critter should cast that vote in person.

Actually, I don't have much of a problem with remote voting - as long as the congressperson is the person doing the voting.
However, your other point is a good one. Be there for the debates, so you know what your vote is for, or against.

Besides, “debate,” “discussion,” “argument,” “negotiation,” “offering amendments,” “horse trading,” etc. can all be done remotely.
When it comes to governing or legislating, reading well-reasoned written position statements and arguments, take your time to think them through, then formulate and draft your own well-reasoned written position statements and counter arguments in reply are arguably more effective than trying to put up real-time performances for C-SPAN cameras or generating sound bites for the news cycles.
