Describing it as the 'western hemisphere' is itself kowtowing to your former British masters, since it's so defined as it is west of Greenwich Observatory.
For those of you who don't know, Greenwich is where the center of the world occurs. Ask any Londoner. Not Greenwich Village, that's somewhere else entirely.
