As @Jolly says, "Gettin' old ain't fer sissies."
True, dat.
But...
Today, 3 other geezers that I used to work with had lunch, for the first time in almost a year. So, a general surgeon, a urologist and an ENT guy joined a gas passer for lunch.
We talked about old times, family things, and of course, the conversation turned to politics.
But the oldest of us, the ENT guy made an interesting comment about aging.
(I just looked him up on FB - he's 80!)
He said, "Getting old is a privilege." I'd never considered that perspective, but, he was right. We talked about our mutual friend, the heart surgeon, who had an intracerebral hemorrhage back in August.
He's right, it's a privilege, and I'm damn lucky.

Originated with the great and incomparable Bette Davis.

"Getting old is a privilege."
That's a wonderful way to look at it.
A guy I used to work with said "Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative"

Maybe even dementia isn't so bad. I mean, I'm sure it's a real hassle for anybody who interacts with you, but for you, maybe you're too far gone to care. Maybe you can just live in the moment and appreciate every day for whatever it is. I'm told that is a good way to live.

A wise observation!

The worst thing my mother experienced was being told she had dementia. We all knew it was happening long before that, but after she was officially diagnosed she just sat and worried about it constantly as the slow deterioration occurred. I honestly felt as though it would have been better if she hadn't had the diagnosis, but it's necessary to get the help you need.
