Same here. The cats love the piano.

@Mik I don't remember the last time I opened it - probably a year. I did it today because it was tuned. I was going to tell the tuner about a buzzing sound I noticed in the C4-C5 range. When I opened it, there was a tennis ball on the strings.

Shouldn’t this be in the Dark and Inappropriate Thread?

Seriously? I am astounded that cats would want on top of the strings. I can totally understand them being on the sides of the music desk or on the lid if it’s closed, but on those thin and tight steel strings? Go figure…

Mik and everyone, what do they love? Is it the height, or like being in a cave, or feeling like they are hidden in black camouflage?
I've been thinking about getting a big indoor cat, but have never had a totally indoor cat or dog. Not sure I can imagine all the downsides, but I've always liked cats, especially those with a "cool" personality.

Boris was there for only long enough for me to snap the photo. He didn't "hang out" at all.

Maggie likes to sleep on the lid, however.

              They love being annoying.

Yeah, but being annoying can be "cool" up to a certain point.
Then, it's a backhand to helicoptering the cat across the room. (just kidding)

Just probably not the same way you do.

It's up high. Plus, Stella is often on the lid when I play, fascinated by the hammers. I'd rather she be entranced by the music, but I'll take whatever audience I can get.

Yes. A friend once explained that the reason you'll see a cat hunkering on a newspaper on the floor is because it is higher than the floor.
