I saw this on a blog I occasionally follow.

The blogger was asking what are the worst movies/ books that you've ever suffered through?

The first entry is a movie: "Death in Venice."

I walked out of this one in college. A middle-aged man’s erotic infatuation with an adolescent boy simmers, it is suggested, beneath the surface. In reality nothing ever happens. The action is all silence, furtive glances and views of dramatic sunlit esplanades. Hard pass.

I have to agree. It's a horrible movie. I struggled to watch it. It's one of those "What the hell were they thinking" movies."

    Among the comments:

Worst Book – The Last Sherlock Holmes Story, in which it is revealed at the end that Holmes has a double personality, the other being Jack The Ripper. I threw the book across the room.

American Beauty–blah blah, the mean, masculine, hyper-American Marine is secretly gay. How trangressive. Yawn.

    Chariots of Fire
One of the very few movies I have ever walked out on… and I have seen LOTS of “straight to drive-in” movies… so this is saying A LOT. I’ve probably seen somewhere between 5000 and 10000 movies.

(I hated this movie. Never understood the point)

In younger days I had a sense of obligation to finish books that I started. Life is short, and I’ve learned better.
But I wish I had the time back that I used for The Magus...

Movies: Believe it or not, Saturday Night Fever. Hated it, though I can't remember why.

Books: Can't say. I've never finished a bad one.

I remember one: Left Behind. Not for the theme, but because it was execrably written.

@Catseye3 I never saw Saturday Night Fever. Thanks for the recommendation caution.

A few years ago, bachophile recommended The Magus. I was thinking of visiting it, but now I wonder....

Don't be guided by me! It was a very popular movie, so you may like it. I just found it horribly depressing.

            It was all Disco music.

There was a very large community of Disco haters.

You might remember the Disco Demolition nights sponsored by some Rock radio stations.
